According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, after the start of the war in Ukraine, legal prosecution was started in Georgia against 246 citizens of Russia and 16 citizens of Belarus. Gomelauri stated this during his speech in the "Minister's Hour" format in the Parliament.
As the Minister of Internal Affairs explained, there is no danger of increasing crime in the country in this regard.
"From the beginning of the war, i.e. if we take the year 2022 as a whole, the crime rate is 0.5%. In terms of numbers, there are 246 Russian citizens against whom the prosecution started for 314 crimes. As for Belarus, 16 Belarusian citizens were prosecuted in 18 cases. And overall, it is 0.5% [of the crime rate] that occurred in the country. So, in this regard, we don't have any danger of increasing crime in the country," Gomelauri said.
