Starting today, Tbilisi City Hall, led by Mayor Kakha Kaladze, will begin fixing 12 problematic junctions in the capital, beginning with the intersection of Beliashvili and Balanchini streets.

This initiative is aimed at improving transportation in the city and will involve redesigning the streets to ensure safe and sustainable movement. The new street design will prioritize the expansion of sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and adapted crossings, as well as the rehabilitation of nearby recreational and public spaces.

The 12 problematic junctions are located on the main public transport corridors, causing up to 1,500 turns of public transport to fail and affecting the smooth operation of bus routes. This has resulted in improper service for approximately 100,000 passengers. The rehabilitation of these junctions will start with the intersection of Beliashvili and Balanchini streets, and will continue in the direction of Tavkhelidze Street, Aleksandre Kazbegi Avenue, and Zhvania Square starting on Saturday.

Kakha Kaladze presented a photograph of what Zhvania Square will look like after rehabilitation, noting that the square is currently one of the busiest junctions. The rehabilitation project will regulate the traffic of pedestrians and automobiles and adapt the square to the needs of public transport passengers to ensure their comfortable movement and transfer to appropriate routes.

During the road works, there will be some restrictions, but vehicles will be able to move according to the existing scheme. The road sections where work will be done have 42 public transport routes, which make over 200,000 trips per day. Mayor Kakha Kaladze emphasized the importance of fixing these places and promised to gradually move to different streets.
