According to him, conflicting signals are coming from Kyiv: “On the one hand, they ask us not to fight with Ukraine in any case, so that our troops do not move there.” On the other hand, Lukashenka claims, Western countries continue to train and arm "militants and extremists" in Ukraine. “Poland, Lithuania are generally crazy. Why do they need it? Unclear. Therefore, we are forced to react harshly,” he said.

Lukashenka added that Belarus "has enough questions around the perimeter" - both in the airspace and on the ground.

Since last autumn, Minsk has been regularly making accusations against Ukraine, claiming that it plans to strike at the territory of Belarus. Since October, a joint grouping of troops with Russia has been deployed in the latter, which, according to the assurance of the Ministry of Defense, performs "purely defensive tasks." And in January, tactical flight exercises began in the republic, in which aviation units of the armed forces of Belarus and the Russian Aerospace Forces take part.

In Kyiv, Minsk’s accusations are denied: the authorities call what is happening in Belarus an attempt to divert the attention of Ukraine, which is why it is forced to keep a group of troops on the border with the republic and not to transfer to other directions. In the fall, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed to introduce an international mission on the border with Belarus in order to “rule out provocations.” He assured that Ukraine "is only interested in its territorial sovereignty" and does not plan military actions against Minsk.
